The elegant lines of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel extend high into the cloudless sky. The gleaming, wave shaped hotel rises above 900m of pristine Arabian coastline and along with the notorious Burj Al Arab is representative of Dubai's ancient maritime tradition.

The exterior of the hotel is constructed from aluminium and blue plated glass, giving it an almost surreal, cool fluidity. By contrast, the interior of the hotel is vibrant and warm incorporating captivating designs and striking architecture.

In addition to being spacious and impeccably decorated, all of the 599 rooms and suites in the hotel look down over the seemingly endless waters of the Arabian Gulf. Exquisite artworks, tasteful furniture, internet access and a private fax, printer and copier add the finishing touches that put the Jumeirah into a class all of its own. For those looking for a little more privacy, the hotel has recently constructed 19 luxury villas known as the Beit Al Bahar within the haven of its tropical gardens. Each villa has its own terrace and mini plunge pool and overlooks the endless sands of the hotel's private beachfront.

Facilities offered at the hotel are precisely what one would expect from an award winning hotel. In addition to the four swimming pools and three squash courts, the hotel also features a health spa and fitness centre, a family adventure playground, a mini driving range and putting ground, beach volleyball and basketball courts and a childrens' playground. There are also seven tennis courts on the hotel grounds where both adults and children can take part in private lessons and tennis tournaments. Water sports such as windsurfing, water skiing, and kayaking are all offered from the hotels private beachfront. In addition, diving enthusiasts have the opportunity of exploring one of the first ever man made coral reefs which is located just off the shoreline.

The 18 bars and restaurants located within the hotel grounds ensure that guests are never pressed for choice when it comes to satisfying their cravings. Available menus range from traditional English pub food to french nouveau cuisine to tasty Italian dishes to hearty German meals. In addition there is also a seafood market which serves ocean fresh seafood dishes and a Villa Beach Restaurant specializing in colourful Mediterranean cuisine. For those looking to kick back and enjoy a drink or two after dinner, the Uptown bar on the hotel's 24th floor serves exotic, rainbow coloured cocktails which are best enjoyed against the backdrop of the spectacular, Arabian sunsets. As the evening wears on, guests can enjoy lively entertainment in the form of belly dancing, live bands and tango dancers to name but a few.

Underwater Hotel in Dubai

Underwater Hotel in Dubai

Underwater Hotel in Dubai
Currently under construction in Dubai, Hydropolis is the world's first luxury underwater hotel. It will include three elements: the land station, where guests will be welcomed, the connecting tunnel, which will transport people by train to the main area of the hotel, and the 220 suites within the submarine leisure complex. It is one of the largest contemporary construction projects in the world, covering an area of 260 hectares, about the size of London's Hyde Park."Hydropolis is not a project; it's a passion," enthuses Joachim Hauser, the developer and designer of the hotel. His futuristic vision is about to take shape 20m below the surface of the Arabian Gulf, just off the Jumeirah Beach coastline in Dubai. The £300 million, 220-suite hotel is due to open at the end of 2007 and will incorporate a host of innovations that will take it far beyond the original blueprint for an underwater complex worthy of Jules Verne.
The ballroom, located at this nerve centre, will have asymmetrical pathways connecting the different storeys along ramps. A large, petal-like retracting roof will enable the staging of open-sky events. Staircases, lifts and ramps will provide access to the ballroom, while flanking catering areas will supply banquets and receptions.

In order to enter this surreal space, visitors will begin at the land station. This 120m woven, semicircular cylinder will arch over a multi-storey building. On the lowest level passengers board a noiseless train propelled by fully automated cable along a modular, self-supporting steel guideway to Hydropolis. A just-in-time and on-demand logistical system will facilitate efficient supply of goods to the hotel.
The upper storeys of the land station house a variety of facilities, including a cosmetic surgical clinic, a marine biological research laboratory and conference facilities. On the lower levels are the staff rooms, goods storage and loading areas, and hotel and parking areas.
The land station also includes a restaurant and high-tech cinema screening the evolution of life in the ocean and the history of underwater architecture. As a finale, the screen will open to reveal the real-life Hydropolis. A viewing platform at the front opening of the spanning roof will allow views of the architecture as well as the light shows of Hydropolis.

Hydropolis guests will also be able to see (through the retractable roof) the $3-billion Palm Island project that's now being developed on reclaimed land. Shaped like a palm tree, the island will have 2,000 villas and as many as 40 luxury hotels, plus upscale retail complexes, cinemas and a marine park.
